Information for learners
Getting an education can be a challenge and having a disability can make this even more challenging.
Local neighbourhood houses or learning centres can help you to improve your education. They offer many and varied courses in a relaxed and friendly space within the local community. They may have the course, hobby or volunteer program that's ideal for you or someone you know.
Adult and Community Education
Of the many education and training options available in Australia, Adult and Community Education (ACE) can play a vital role in your continued learning and help you to
- expand your skills and knowledge
- prepare yourself for possible career change
- gain a sense of personal achievement.
ACE courses offer an informal and welcoming learning environment. While formal qualifications are very important and particularly valued by employers, there may be times when you prefer to do an ACE course, particularly if you have a fear of tests or don't like overly structured courses.
ACE courses cover a wide range of subjects and the majority are:
- flexible
- short duration
- part-time
- fee-for-service
- affordable
Visit the myfuture and Association of Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres (ANHLC) websites for further career and course related information relevant to the ACE sector.
